Twister spent about four months at Fox Run Equine Center……...and it was a tough road for her and the wonderful caregivers at the facility. Dr. Burks is an outstanding vet whose dedication and love for the animals he treats is unbelievable.

Three different times, Dr. Burks told me that he thought that it was time to put Twister down, and three times between Twister and Dr. Burks, she pulled through.

I learned the hard way about abscesses, infections, hoof grooving, and hoof resection. I learned about suffering and hope and the power of prayer.

For weeks at a time Twister spent the day laying out flat in her stall, but always still getting up to eat. I saw her lying there……..when all she could struggle to do was raise her head when you came into her stall. I saw her when just getting up took monumental efforts and walking was almost impossible!

I watched her with IV's, and leg wraps, and shots, and meds……...and I heard Dr. Burk's caution that "we're not out of the woods, yet."

But through it all, Twister never gave up and neither did Dr. Burks and the staff at Fox Run. I can still hear his words saying, "I stood there and looked into Twister's eyes, and she told me that she wasn't ready to quit yet. I had to find something else to try."

I still remember when an older gentleman (probably, a handyman) came up to me and told me about the hours he spent with Twister when she couldn't get up……...just sitting in her stall with her head in his lap……..

Yes, Never Underestimate the Impossible!!!!! Unbendable steel does bend and sometimes we don't even know why……….

Twister has been home (or actually, at our trainer's, Samantha Rossey,) since December 13, 2002……….she's still not out of the woods, but we can see the edge of those woods……..and with the continued care of the staff at Fox Run and with the grace of God, we may get to see the Impossible, after all!!!! Say a prayer for us if you have a spare one, please.
