The Call

The hardest part is waiting and wondering……..and so I began the daily calls to check on Twister. I sure didn't get much positive news…….."She's still very sick."  "She's still very sore."  "We have her on big doses of meds."

You can't imagine how good it sounded to hear someone say, "She's still getting up to eat."

Day by day, checking the answering machine from work and hoping there wasn't a message…….getting the nerve to make that daily phone call to Fox Run. No better……..no foal!

On Tuesday morning, July 9, I heard the message from Dr. Burks, "Call down as soon as you can. Twister foaled overnight."  With shaking hands, I dialed the now familiar number……….

"Yes, Twister foaled."

"Yes, she had a colt."

"Yes, it's alive."

"Yes, Twister is doing as well as can be expected."

"Yes, it's a pinto and looks just like her!"

HE"S ALIVE!!!!!

Twister did the impossible.……..and so began Twister's fight to "beat the odds!"  I called Donald at work and we made a flying trip
down to Fox Run!!!

What a beautiful colt with a gorgeous head and lovely neck…..good size, too! We were so happy with the gift Twister gave us…...

Now, our attention turned to whether Twister could be saved or not.

Dr. Burks was really wonderful……...although, not optimistic.

He laid it all out for me. Twister would have a long battle ahead if she does recover from the severe laminitis and many things can
go wrong in the meantime.

We would have to take one day at a time and right now concentrate on giving the colt the best chance of making it!

My next week was spent worrying about if the colt would survive. We named him Twist of Fate and gave him the barn name Dallas.

Never underestimate the impossible!
